Julian Thew Profile
Julian 'Yo-Yo' Thew got his nickname because his chip stack had a habit of going up, then down, then back up again.
He has won more than $2,500,000 in live tournaments and writes a column exlusively for Pokerjolt.
Before turning pro he worked as a freelance draughtsman for an engineering company.
He was also a keen canoeist and represented England at events all over the world.
After moving to Dublin, he began playing in his brother’s home game and realised his future was in poker.
He’s been crushing the live tournament circuit ever since, with an impressive list of big-money cashes that have seen him become one of the UK’s highest earning players of all time.
He made his first European Poker Tour (EPT) final table in 2004, cashing for $15,098 for 9th place in London.
Just a few weeks later he made another EPT final table, this time a 7th place finish in Dublin.
It was to be the start of an impressive run of EPT results that culminated with a win at the Season 4 Baden event in 2007, pocketing $947,806.
Julian plays for up to 40 hours-a-week online at Pokerstars.com
