Freddy Deeb Profile
Kassem Ibrahim Deeb, better known as Freddy Deeb, is a Lebanese-American poker professional who has made over $7,200,000 from his live tournament play.
Freddy took up poker out of need. Age 19, he had emigrated from his homeland of Lebanon to the USA where he was studying Mechanical Engineering at Utah State University.
His parents had been sending him money to fund his education but then civil war broke out in Lebanon and he lost contact with them for two years – and had to drop out just before completing his degree. As Deeb was on a student visa he was unable to get legal work, so he had to turn to gambling to support himself. And it's worked out pretty well for him...
Deeb has won two World Series of Poker bracelet events. His first came in 1996, when he won the WSOP $5,000 Deuce to Seven Draw event for a payout of $146,250. The second and most significant came in 2007 when Freddy won the WSOP $50,000 World Championship H.O.R.S.E. event for a monster payout of $2,276,832.
It was an important win for Deeb and he felt it gave him the respect he deserved. He was quoted at the time as saying, "It means everything to me. These are the toughest players in the world. It has the highest buy-in. Except for the $10,000 buy-in (Main Event), this is the bracelet that means the most of any of them."
As of 2010, Freddy Deeb has a total of 28 cashes at the World Series including a 17th and a 13th place cash in the 1995 and 2003 WSOP Main Events respectively!
Deeb has had equal success on the World Poker Tour. He's made eight WPT event final tables and won three WPT titles. In 2005 he won the WPT UltimateBet Aruba Poker Classic, topping a field of 647 to take the first prize of a cool $1,000,000. In 2009 he won the WPT Celebrity Invitational No Limit Hold'em event for $100,000. And in 2010, he won the WPT Rendez-Vous à Paris HighRoller event for $385,561.
