Ilari Sahamies Profile
Ilari "Ziigmund" Sahamies is an outrageous Finnish high stakes poker pro who specialises in Pot-Limit Omaha cash games. He has won over $327,241 in live tournament winnings but regularly gambles for far more than that, often in single pots!
Ilari shot to fame when he started showing up on the nosebleed stakes games on Full Tilt Poker trash talking with some of the biggest names in the game.
Sahamies was a junior billiards champion and it was through that 'sport' that he met and befriended Patrik Antonius who encouraged him to play poker at age 15. When he turned 18 Sahamies took himself off to the Grand Casino Helsinki and quickly realised that the standard of play wasn't very good and that he could make money playing there. Within two years he was a professional poker player and he quickly built up a massive bankroll.
In the early days of his career, Ilari (who likes a drink) would play online poker while intoxicated and he lost millions of dollars this way. He has wisely stopped that habit.
Sahamies playing style is described as very aggressive and it is said that when he is playing his A-game he is almost unbeatable (but that he always "teeters on insanity").
It's also said that if his A-game isn't working he reverts to his B-game, which is worse than most players' Z-game, and his C-game is more like chip dumping!
Consequently Ilari Sahamies is known as a high variance player who has huge wins and huge losses! Most poker fans agree Ziigmund is great fun to watch, which why he is often invited to play on TV poker shows like High Stakes Poker and Poker After Dark.
