The World Series of Poker discovered the perils of social networking today as users claimed their new Facebook application 'sucked'.
Unlike the WSOP Main Event, which costs $10,000 to enter, the app is free and enables you to go head-to-head with friends and rivals all over the planet to chase 'virtual' gold bracelets.
Unfortunately, within hours of launching, the WSOP discovered the corporate downside social media – users can tell the entire world what they really think.
Nearly 100 people bombarded the WSOP's Facebook page within hours of it going live.
Most pointed out that virtual rewards are not quite as exciting as real ones. Others insisted the application didn't even work.
Technical comments ranged from ''Unfortunately, I can't even sit down to play. It just searches and searches,” to the more old fashioned “The link doesn't work”.
Others were more critical.
One user, Dataico Albertin, said: “It sucks. How can you go all in every time with every hand and still call it 'playing'?”.
Isaac Sams added that you “Can't expect players to play seriously with fake money...”, Ron Armstrong observed that you could “shove with anything and suk out” while Christoph Schauz was even more succint with: “Doesn't work.”.
Before long, users were mocking the game openly in front of the site's 32,400 fans.
“Good reviews everyone..lol,” laughed Michael Newport. “I'll stick to Full Tilt freerolls for practice!”
The WSOP app does feature regular prizes, if not quite the $8.94m this year's world champion can look forward to, and will be offering some seat packages to winners – effectively running freerolls on the world's largest social networking site.
The No Limit Hold'em game is based on an existing app developed by a Californian-based technology company Playdom.
