Poker in the Park will go ahead next month despite the violent riots across London and the UK, organisers said today.
Several public gatherings have been cancelled in the capital since rioting began at the weekend.
Festivals and football matches have been postponed and even the annual Notting Hill Carnival is said to be at risk.
But the police ban on public gatherings is unlikely to affect the huge poker festival, even though it will take place in Hanover Square, just a stone’s throw from Oxford Street where some of the worst looting has taken place.
An insider at Europe’s largest poker festival told Pokerjolt: "Poker in the Park is still very much going ahead."
Some 25,000 people are expected for the fifth year of the festival, with more marquees, lectures and live poker on offer than in previous years when it opens on September 2.
For the first time ever, Poker in the Park will also have a Main Stage, which will feature live music, big-name comedians host the second annual British Poker Awards, a star-studded ceremony to honour the cream of UK poker.![]()
