PPS is usually something you say at the end of a letter when you've forgotten to mention a crucial detail about something.
But now PokerStars has changed the acronym forever by launching The Portugal Poker Series - the biggest live poker tour ever held in Portugal - also to be known as...the PPS!
The three-event season is a bit like a Portugese version of the UKIPT. It begins in Vilamoura, at the famous Casino Vilamoura on April 14. The three-day event includes €700+€70 No Limit Hold’em Main Event, which will be limited to 400 players.
The next stop on the tour will be Figueira de Foz from June 10-13 and concludes at Espinho from October 13-16 for similar big money tourneys.
Portugese poker pro Nuno Coelho told us: "Finally Portugal has a poker tour with an excellent game structure and attractive prize pool that will make many international players want to visit the country.
"The local players’ friendliness and the Algarve’s climate will make for an unforgettable experience."
It is thought the Main Event prize pools could exceed €200,000.
British player Toby Lewis won last year's EPT Vilamoura, pocketing €467,836 - the biggest one-off tournament ever held in Portugal.
Marta Salvado from Global Poker Tours added: "The Portugal Poker Series will provide the players with the opportunity to experience a top-class tour with an accessible buy-in.
"We’ll see exciting action from the moment the cards are in the air.”
* Online satellites to the first event in Vilamoura are now under way at PokerStars.com Players can qualify for €1,300 packages from as little as €2.20. ![]()
