The EPT Deauville was very much a French affair yesterday as the locals dominated the early proceedings at the Deauville International Centre.
Guillaume de la Gorce is the early chip leader with an impressive 196,800 in his back pocket - but he was well supported by his fellow countrymen.
Of 419 starters at Casino Barriere, including many new faces for the European Poker Tour, just 297 remain to fight another day on Thursday.
Among the early big name casualties were John Duthie, Victoria Coren and Team PokerStars Pro's fruitiest fillie Fatima Moreira de Melo.
Jake Cody, who won both this event and the WPT London last year, also busted early on and will have to watch from the rail from now on.
And that's not a bad idea, as some really big guns are arriving to join the action for Day 1B today.
The star-studded field will include world champion Jonathan Duhamel as well as Isildur1, aka Viktor Blom, Daniel Negreanu, Bertrand Grospellier and Vanessa Rousso.
The €5,300 EPT Deauville Main Event is well on target to smash last season's 768-strong record. A first prize of close to €1million is expected.
