The heavy snow causing chaos across Britain and Ireland has claimed its latest victim - an indoor poker tournament.
The UK and Ireland Poker Tour (UKIPT) event in Galway has been postponed by a day after more blizzards in western Ireland brought gridlock to roads and public transport.
PokerStars, which sponsors the event, said it was impossible for some players to get to the trendy Radisson Blu Hotel & Spa for the start of the tourney - so it will now start tomorrow instead.
A €10,000 freeroll will instead be held in the main tournament area at 4pm today for players who have made it to the venue on time.
Spokeswoman Kirsty Thompson said: "We are very sorry to have to postpone the event by one day, but it is the most sensible and fair option.
"So many of our players would have had great difficulty getting here on time for tomorrow's scheduled start."
The heavy snow has brought much of the UK to a standstill, with Gatwick and Edinburgh airports shut once again today and much of the road and rail network stuggling to cope.
Forecasters say even heavier snow could fall this weekend as warm moist air, pushing up from the Atlantic, meets the freezing Siberian winds currently over Britain.![]()
