PokerStars has revealed details of its next major ladies only tournament - the Women's Caribbean Adventure.
The $1,100 buy-in event will take place on January 14-15 during the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (PCA) festival at the Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas.
The world's biggest poker site says it will be "one of the most prestigious female-only tournaments in the world" and invites women to follow in the footsteps of Vanessa Rousso, who won the event in January.
Rousso earned close to $25,000, the largest share of an $88,270 prize pool, for beating a field of 91 players.
It comes less than a week after Taiwan-born pro Maria Ho backed women's only tournaments after controversially claiming that women poker players are 'scared' to play at the same table as men.
Pokerstars, like other leading tournament sponsors, deny such events are sexist and have always claimed that men could enter women's tournaments if they wished - but generally choose not to do so.
The comapny says that next January's event will be the biggest yet and feature a clutch of celebrity players including Rousso, Vanessa Selbst, Victoria Coren and Liv Boeree.
Rousso will also be hosting an exclusive Boot Camp on the eve of the tournament, offering players the chance to improve their game.
Female players can qualify for the event in satellite tournaments on Pokerstars. Buy-ins start from $2 or 500 Frequent Player Points (FPPs). Qualifiers' packages include the $1,100 buy-in to the Women's Caribbean Adventure tournament, plus entry to the Boot Camp, beach camp, party and four nights’ accommodation and expenses, plus a goody bag. ![]()
