BRAZIL is the home of sexy football - and poker is about to take it's rightful place alongside the beautiful game in the country's heart.

The PokerStars.net Latin American Poker Tour (LAPT) is to make a historic return to the country in August.

The LAPT will be stopping in Florianopolis between August 4-8, it was confirmed today.

The capital of Santa Catarina State is known as the best city to live in Brazil and has a great surfing beach, a rainforest and some of the best golf courses in South America on its doorstep.

Brazilian Pro Andre Akkari said: "I am so happy that the LAPT will return to Brazil!

"Florianopolis has got everything; players can enjoy the amazing surroundings whilst playing some of the best poker in Latin America!"

The event will take place at the all-inclusive Costão do Santinho resort on the north side of Santa Catarina Island, alongside the stunning Santinho beach.

Ringed by historic archaeological sites, lush dunes, and adventure trails, the resort sits on 185 acres of Atlantic rainforest and offers some of the best luxury service in the world.

The main event will have a US$2,500 +$200 buy-in, but satellites will be running on Pokerstars for a package which includes the entry fee, accommodation in Florianopolis and a contribution towards travel expenses.   .

Most of Latin America's main players will be there including Akkari himself, Alexandre Gomes, Maridu Mayrinck and Gualter Salles.

LAPT President David Carrion said today: "We are very pleased that the LAPT will return to Brazil for the penultimate Season 3 stop and anticipate this event to be one of the biggest in LAPT history.

"The support from the government and the outstanding resort make for a combination that will help provide a one of a kind experience for players and their guests.”
