MACAU will tomorrow host the biggest poker tournament ever held in Asia.
The Macau Millions has a HKD $1,000,000 guaranteed prize pool with a buy-in of HKD $2,200.
The huge new event at the Casino Grand Lisboa is expected to attract hundreds of players and will run until August 8.
It confirms the former Portuguese colony as the region's poker capital and comes just months after little-known farmer Victorino Torres, from the American Northern Mariana Islands, won the APPT Macau.
The tournament itself has a unique re-buy structure, with players able to enter any of the five Day Ones and return to re-enter the next day if they are eliminated.
The top 7 per cent each day will make the money and play the Day Two final.
There will also be a $5,000 NLH event from August 7-8, with both counting towards the Asia Player of the Year leaderboard. That is currently topped by pros Raymond Wu and Bryan Huang.
Macau, like Hong Kong, is a 'special administrative region' of China, granting it freedoms unthinkable elsewhere in the country. That has helped it become a tourist hotspot fuelled by the gambling industry - and earned it the title 'the Asian Las Vegas'.
And there's good news for anyone worried about bubbling - Macau has the longest life expectancy in the world. That has to be a good omen, surely?
