Word reaches 5am that Doyle Brunson has put his foot in it yet again.

Texas Dolly, famed for his hatred of politicians, innocently Tweeted a joke at the weekend, saying 'Politicians and diapers need to be changed often, and for the same reason'.

Unfortunately for Dolly, not exactly famed for his mastery of timing, he'd done it within hours of the political asassination attempt in Arizona which left six dead, including a federal judge and a 9-year-old girl, and 14 people injured.

A humbled Dolly was forced, unusually for him, into issuing a rapid apology.

"Sorry about the politicitan quote," he added. "I live under a rock. I didn't know about the Arizona incident. My deepest apologies."

Jared Loughner appeared in court yesterday in connection with the shooting, which has left Republican Gabrielle Giffords fighting for her life.

President Obama - himself not immune to outbursts from Mr Brunson - will speak at a memorial service in Tucson tomorrow.
